Beliefs

Who We Are

  • We are a Bible-believing Christian Church
    • Followers of Jesus Christ who love Jesus, recognize the Bible as the Word of God, and desire to grow in knowledge and understanding of the Word
    • Seek to follow the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) and Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-38)
      • To share the gospel, baptize, and help people grow in their faith
      • To love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind
    • Love one another (Matthew 22:39-40; John 13:34-35)
    • Believe that Jesus is the only way for salvation (John 14:16-17), that salvation is by grace through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9), and that a personal, saving relationship with Jesus is essential
    • Have a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-17)
    • Believe that prayer is an essential part of our relationship with Jesus Christ and that prayers are answered (Matthew 7:7-12;  James 4:3, Philippians 4:6-7)
  • We are a member of the Evangelical Covenant Denomination

    • A very high view of Scripture with an emphasis on its supreme authority
      • The Bible is the Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct  (2 Timothy 3:16)
      • The Bible is alive and active and nothing is hidden from God’s sight (Hebrews 4:12-13)
      • We practice “where is it written” for discussions regarding faith and practice
    • Non-creedal, as the Bible itself is our creed
      • The ECC affirms the historic confessions of the Christian Church, particularly the Apostle’s Creed and Nicene Creed, while emphasizing the sovereignty of the Word of God over all creedal interpretations.
    • Non-doctrinaire, as fellowship and unity as believers is more important than different, and potentially divisive, interpretations in areas of secondary (“non-essential”) doctrine that respected theologians have disagreed about for years
    • Missional, with a commitment to sharing the good news and befriending others through relationships and service
    • Embodies  “In essentials unity, in non-essential liberty, in all things charity”
  • We are a local fellowship of believers with important distinctives

    • We are a small, relational church where people are known, loved, cared for, and contribute their time, talents, and treasures to God’s work in various capacities
    • We are a shepherd-led church where the pastor knows people and is involved in their lives
    • We are a family of families, with a high priority on discipling the many children and youth in our congregation as our first and most important mission field
    • We worship on Sunday through singing, prayer, and Bible-based teaching that helps us to see how we can better apply what the Bible says to our daily lives
    • We desire to live our lives together as a community of believers with relationships that extend beyond Sunday morning and church activities
    • We strive to share the gospel through our personal relationships, through partnership with local Christian organizations (e.g. Celebrate Recovery, Young Life, With Love for Jesus) and through the missionaries we support
    • We strive at all ages to live out our faith through service to the needy in our local area
